At One Degree, we maintain tech-driven solutions that equip individuals and families to find and access social services. We are seeking volunteers to join our Los Angeles County team to increase awareness of our services and tools. This is a great opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting low-income communities.

Social Media Specialist Volunteer

Overview: Unpaid volunteer position, 5-15 hours per week, for a 3-6 month commitment, some weekends; mostly remote, flexible hours.

Age restriction: Must be 18 years or older 

This position is great for those who would like to volunteer with: 

  • Flexible hours between 7:00 am – 7:00 pm PST 
  • 70% remote/online and 30% in-person (e.g., tabling at community events)
  • At a tech-forward organization (we use Slack, Google sheets, etc.)
  • To accomplish the far-reaching impact of improving the wellbeing of local communities!


Here’s what one of our volunteers shared about their One Degree experience: 

I like connecting people to information and other people and volunteering with One Degree allows me to provide that service! I’ve really enjoyed learning about the opportunities listed in One Degree, especially arts and job training programs for youth.

As part of the Social Media Volunteer team, you will be helping us create engaging and creative posts to increase awareness of our LA resources and activities. You will:

In-Person:

  • Participate in tabling events to take images/videos of team engaging community and support as needed
  • Network with professionals to increase One Degree awareness and encourage cross promotion

Remote:

  • Develop and implement guidelines on what we should put on our social media channels (e.g., Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, Medium, Newsletters) 
  • Help create and maintain a social media plan with other departments
  • Use social media to promote Los Angeles County activities and partnerships 
  • Use Slack to communicate with the Volunteer team and stay informed on Volunteer program updates 
  • Attend monthly One Degree volunteer team meeting

Note: The volunteer description above is subject to change.

Time Commitment: 5-15 hours a week for 3-6 months with some weekends. Potential to volunteer longer if interested. 

Qualifications: Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred. Knowledge of the different social media platforms. Have access to a computer/laptop. Good written, verbal communication, and typing skills. Ability to work independently and with others. Strong proofreading skills. Encouraged to attend an in-person event at least once every 3 months.  

Training: An introduction & orientation call will be set up with a member of our team. Detailed instructions, training videos, one-on-one virtual support (Slack, email, conference calls) and thoughtful feedback will be given along the way.
