At One Degree, we maintain tech-driven solutions that equip individuals and families to find and access social services. We are seeking volunteers to join our Los Angeles County team to increase awareness of our services and tools. This is a great opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting low-income communities.

Community Outreach Volunteer

Overview: Unpaid volunteer position, 5-15 hours per week, for a 3-6 month commitment, some weekends; mostly remote, flexible hours.

Age restriction: Must be 18 years or older 

This position is great for those who would like to volunteer with: 

  • Flexible hours between 7:00 am – 7:00 pm PST 
  • 70% remote/online and 30% in-person (e.g., tabling at community events)
  • At a tech-forward organization (we use Slack, Google sheets, etc.)
  • To accomplish the far-reaching impact of improving the wellbeing of local communities!


Here’s what one of our volunteers shared about their One Degree experience: 

I like connecting people to information and other people and volunteering with One Degree allows me to provide that service! I’m inspired by all the hours fellow volunteers put in and like having the opportunity to work as a team in updating resources. I’ve really enjoyed learning about the opportunities listed in One Degree, especially arts and job training programs for youth.

As part of the Community Outreach Volunteer team, you will have the opportunity to connect with community members and organizations in Los Angeles County, both in person and remote, informing them about the One Degree platform and how it can help them access social services. You will also be attending events to network with other organizations and collecting surveys from community members to evaluate what social services they may need. You will:

In-Person:

  • Participate in tabling events and engage community to explore One Degree platform
  • Conduct surveys and/or promotional activities 
  • Assist in pre and post event tasks 
  • Network with professionals to increase One Degree awareness 

Remote:

  • Contact event organizers to host One Degree at local events
  • Maintain an events calendar and contacts
  • Support in distributing marketing materials
  • Share new resources with team to add onto database 
  • Update, maintain and create new handout flyers
  • Use Slack to communicate with the Volunteer Team and stay informed on program updates 
  • Attend monthly One Degree Volunteer Team meeting

Time Commitment: 5-15 hours per week for 3-6 months with some weekends. Potential to volunteer longer if interested. 

Qualifications: Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred. Basic knowledge of computer and data entry. Have access to a computer/laptop. Good written, verbal communication, and typing skills. Ability to work independently and with others. Strong proofreading skills. Light physical demands. Attend an in-person event at least once every 3 months. Must be comfortable with talking to people with lived experience without judgment and discrimination. 

Training: An introduction & orientation Zoom call will be set up with a member of our team. Detailed instructions, training videos, one-on-one virtual support (Slack, email, Zoom calls) and thoughtful feedback will be given along the way.
